VMA

Last night was the 28th Annual MTV Video Music Awards and my favorite celebrities were out in full force. The  highlight of the night was when Beyonce flashed her baby bump to the world while Jay Z watched proudly from a distance beaming with joy. I am so happy for them Congrats Beyonce and Jay Z. Below are some of my favorite looks from last night.

Beyonce was glowing in this beautiful gown by Lanvin.. Congrats Bey!

Beyonce looked stunning while performing on stage as well.

Kim Kardashian looked good, but I've seen her look better.

Miley Cyrus looked AMAZING!

I loved Amber Rose's outfit the most. It's giving me inspiration for the All White Party this long weekend.

A Must Read: The Infidel

I was once an avid reader, but the guilt of being in school  made me give up one of my favorite hobbies. I was in chapters a few months ago when I picked up The Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I read a few pages but never really got into in until I was on vacation a week ago. This book  is so good I couldn't put it down until I was done reading it. Here is a little synopsis of the book.

The infidel shows the coming of age of this distingiushed political superstar and champion of free speech as well as the development of her beliefs, ironwill, and extraordinary determination to fight injustice. Raised in a strict Muslim family, Hirsi Ali survived civil war, female mutilation, brutal beatings, adolescence as a devout believer during the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, and life in four troubled, unstable countries ruled largely by despots. She escaped from and forced marriage and sought asylum in the Netherlands, where she earned a college degree in political science, tried to help her tragically depressed sister adjust to the West, and fought for the rights of Muslim women and the reform of Islam as a member of Parliament. Under constant threat, demonized by reactionary Islamists and politicians, disowned by her father, and expelled from family and clan, she refuses to be silenced. Ultimately a celebration of triumph over adversity, Hirsi Ali's story tells how a bright little girl evolves out of dutiful obedience to become an outspoken, pioneering freedom fighter.

The reason I love this book is because of Ayaan's candid telling of her life story and how those events shaped who she is today.  I love her fighting spirit, perseverance and her drive to make the world a better place for women.

The Results

I know I promised to post the results of my 30 day Challenge before I left on vacation, but I was too busy with work and doing last minute errands for the trip that I didn't have time to do the post. Well the results are in and I must say this was one of the most difficult things I had to do. I honestly thought it would be easy losing 10 lbs in 30 days and that I would stay motivated, but it proved to be not so easy. In the first week of my challenge, I lost 3 pounds and it everything seemed to be going good, and then things slowed down after that.  After 4 weeks of challenging myself  to healthy eating and intense workouts, I only lost 4 lbs with 5 inches all around and I am satisfied with the results.

I returned from my vacation two days ago, stepped on the scale and lets just say I gained every pound I lost from the challenge and a little more. In the past I would have been hard on myself, but honestly every pound gained represents how much fun I had and I wouldn't have done things differently.

Here are a few funny/favorite pictures from my trip

I will post more pictures from my trip in the next few days.

Happy Tuesday

BOOTIE LOVE

As much as I am enjoying my summer, a part of me is secretly wishing it was fall so I could have an excuse to wear my chunky knits and boots, especially my favorite black studded booties by Steve Madden. These booties are perfect for fall because they go with pretty much everything in my closet. I'll patiently await fall and enjoy the nice weather for now.

Does anyone feel the way I feel about wanting to wear fall clothing already?

Summer Fun!!

I know it may seems like I've been ignoring my blog, but really I've been having one of the best summers of my life.. At the beginning of the summer I promised myself that I would take time from my hectic work schedule and make time for myself, but more importantly, spend more time outdoors and I have been doing just that. From running outdoors to enjoying local outdoor festivals, I have come to realize that Calgary is indeed a beautiful city. I am leaving on vacation in 9 days and I am super excited. I'll be back next week just before I leave on my vacation to tell you guys the result of my "30 Day 10 Pounds Challenge".  Honestly, you all need to enjoy the last 6 weeks or so  of summer before the crisp fall air rolls in.

Happy Friday!!
