Home Decor Chronicles

Oh man I know it's been a while since my last blog post. Sometimes it goes like that and if I'm not inspired, I'm not going to post random stuff just to fill feeds. Besides, the past few months has been off the chain busy with  Joyce's Closet. However, I have truly missed blogging and all the connections I have made with my readers.

It's been 8 months since I moved into my new space and boy has it been quite the journey of trying to make my space feel like home and finding things that I would love for many years to come.  I wanted a space that was serene, warm and cozy, but also functional and perfect for entertaining. When things go awry it's comforting to have a place to retreat to and that is what I wanted to achieve in my living room.
I created the picture above via Polyvore of what I wanted my living room to ultimately look like and also took some inspiration from Pintrest

My sofa was a modular sectional from EQ3 Furnishing. I loved that the pieces were all detachable and I could switch them around as I pleased. I loved that the sectional was contemporary, but very comfortable. A bit expensive, but definitely worth every penny.
After eyeing a similar coffee table at Urban Barn for a quite a while, I lucked out on a similar piece on one of my random trips to Homesense, for a fraction of the cost. The only difference was the size between the two.

I had just about given up, after searching high and low in Calgary for the perfect rug, when I randomly walked into Target to pick up some last minute things for my trip to the mountains, when I saw the perfect rug that I had been looking for in the same pattern for a fraction of the cost.

The decorative serving tray was also a steal from Homesense. I loved the Victorian design on it with gold ascents which totally compliment the yellow, brown and grey tones.
My coffee table reads where both from Winners. “American Fashion Designers at Home” and “Yves Saint Laurent Style”. I purchased both on sale for 80% less than the retail price. A steal in my opinion.
I spurlged on cushions and paid about $80 a piece for the fluffy white Mongolian ones from Urban Barn, while the small ones cost around $30 each from Walmart, Homesense and Superstore.
I absolutely love candles by Voluspa and Santiago Huckleberry is my favorite scent for fall and winter. I love how the scent envelopes the home, without being too overwhelming. I bought the handle holder from Homesense for $10 on sale.

I ordered an ascent chair from EQ3 which should  be here in about 4-6 weeks. I also got a painting commission by a local artist and will be picking up a lamp in the next week or two. I will update you guys with new pictures as soon as I make more progress.

If you guys have any design tips you would like to share, please do so in the comment section.

I would love to hear from you.
