Wedding Wednesday: Bridal Trends
New year, new brides, and more beautiful wedding trends to follow! Last year we were able to stargaze at the styles of celebrity brides who ditched the red carpet runways for a wedding aisle. Which wedding dress trends will prove to be timeless and which trends will become faux-pas predecessors? Here’s a recap of chic nuptials from the famous and fancy:
Allison Williams & Ricky Van Veen
The “Girls” actress and daughter of news anchor Brian Williams married her fiancé Ricky Van Neen in a princess ball gown by Oscar de la Renta. Her cathedral veil became a statement piece to perfectly complement her sophisticated and elegant lace dress.
Geri Halliwell & Christian Horner
Sheer sleeves with ornate patterns have become a classic look for wedding gowns. Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell followed the Kate Middleton-inspired trend with a floor length princess ball gown and lace cathedral veil at her wedding to fiancé Christian Horner.
Nicky Hilton & James Rothschild
Fashion designer and heiress Nicky Hilton continued the elegant lace sleeves trend and added a slightly more conservative appeal with a much higher neckline. Hilton married fiancé and heir James Rothschild in a lace overlay gown by Valentino. Again we see the classic and dramatic touch of a cathedral veil.
Whitney Port & Tim Rosenman
Whitney Port, fashion designer and television personality from MTV’s “The Hills,” married producer Tim Rosenman with her signature California cool style. The blonde bombshell, while still rocking the lace overlay sleeves look, had a fitted bodice with an asymmetrical skirt. Her long legs were accentuated with a shorter front and longer train. Port integrates her unique and personal style while still adhering to a beautiful bridal look – something every bride should showcase.
Tina Knowles & Richard Lawson
Tina Knowles, fashion designer and mother of fashion icon Beyonce Knowles, married Richard Lawson at a sleek and chic April wedding on a yacht. Matching her new husband in an all-white outfit, Knowles wore a fitted gown with a flowy sheer overlay, asymmetrical neckline, and gold belt. As an additional and more different option than a ball gown, this fitted look is very glam and sexy.
Vanessa Williams and Jim Skrip
Singer and actress Vanessa Williams was also a vision in her fitted wedding gown. Williams wore a streamlined and sophisticated dress by Carmen Marc Valvo at her wedding to businessman Jim Skrip. Williams is captivating in a simple and signature look that is accentuated with gold detail at the waist.
Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello
Sofia Vergara married fellow star actor Joe Manganiello in a fairytale strapless ball gown custom-made by Zuhair Murad. Her sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice accentuated her hourglass waist and elaborate skirt. This look was a refreshing and breathtaking alternative to the actress’s usual sexy and curve-hugging red carpet outfits.
Hilary Rhoda and Sean Avery
Sports Illustrated model, Hilary Rhoda and Canadian professional hockey player Sean Avery exchanged vows last October at an intimate ceremony in The Hamptons. Rhoda went for a unique and bold look in a Carolina Herrera gown with plunging neckline. Pops of green and blue were enhanced in a sparkling underlay with a low-cut back and black rounded collar. The floor length gown with shorter train was paired with a cathedral-length veil.
