Wine Wednesday: Wine Fest 2016

One of the perks of being a blogger is having early access to some of the most anticipated events going on in the city. Last Friday, I had the pleasure of being invited for a preview of Winefest at the BMO Center on the Stampede Grounds in Calgary before the doors opened to the public.  Winefest is a unique yearly event that gives consumers the opportunity to try some of the newest wines with knowledgeable experts on hand to help with tasting notes and any other questions you may have.  Winefest is one of my favorite events to attend and definitely one of the most anticipated events in the city. Even though I attend the event every year, I always discover something new and exciting to talk about. Here are a couple of my favorites from this year's  event.
Domaine de Paraza Syrah

I am more of a white wine drinker, but  occasionally drink the odd glass of red wine here and there. The Domaine de Paraza Syrah was an instant party in my mouth. With hints of black currant , dark fruits and a subtle spicy finish this wine was # one on my list and would pair greatly with a nice Rib Eye Steak.
DR Zen Zen  Gewurztraminer
White are my favorites, especially a nice fruity white and the DR Zen Zen  Gewurztraminer was absolutely amazing. It would be the perfect wine on a hot summer day on the patio. This wine has notes of ripe pineapple, rose and lychee fruit and goes perfectly with spicy foods and salads.

It is always a pleasure being at Winefest and I can't wait to discover new favorites next year.
